EC yet to decide on deploying army

DHAKA: Election Commission (EC) has not sent any letter to the authority concerned about deployment of army across the country for the 10th general elections.

Additional Secretary of the election commission M Sirajul Islam told the journalists, “No decision has been taken, so far, to the authority for sending letter asking army.”

The additional secretary came up with the disclosure while talking to journalists at the Election Commission secretariat of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Saturday noon.

He said, “In all the parliamentary elections since 1973, army had been deployed as it was impossible for the law enforcing agency to control the law and order situation across the country on the voting day.”

On the other hand, sources from EC said that they would take the decision within a couple of days.
