Blockade enters day-2 amid blasts

DHAKA: The 72-hour nationwide roads-railways-waterways blockade, called by 18-party alliance, is underway for second consecutive day on Sunday amid blasts, arson and vandalism.

The daylong hartal, called by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, is also underway in the capital.

Shibir men brought out a pro-blockade procession and blasted five cocktails in city’s Basabo area at around 7:30am. They also set fire on roads pouring petrol.

Besides, Shibir men took out a procession in support of hartal and blockade in front of Matuail Hospital in the city at around 5:45am and torched a parked bus and vandalized others.

Jatrabari thana offier-in-charge RAfiqul Islam said, being informed about setting fire at a bus, police rushed to the spot and fired some blank shots to disperse the Shibir men.

Chhatra Dal called dawn-to-dusk hartal in 10 districts, including Dhaka and greater Chittagong for Sunday protesting the arrest and remand of central leaders including party vice-president Sadek Hossain Khoka and Chhatra Dal president Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel.
