Boy killed in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ: A 12-year-old boy was killed in a clash between opposition BNP-led 18-party people and law enforcers in Bahuli Bazar area under Sadar Upazila of the district on Monday morning.

The deceased could not be known immediately.

Local sources said 18-party leaders and activists blocked the Sirajganj-Raiganj road, supporting the countrywide blockade called by 18-party and hartal called by Jamaat-e-Islami.

During the time, they locked into a clash with law enforcing agency personnel as they tried to prevent the hartal and blockade supporters from blocking the road.

Police fired from their shot guns to bring the situation under control, leaving the child dead on the spot.

Confirming the matter, Assistant Superintendent of Police of the circle Forkan Sikder said there were exchanges of bullet between police and 18-party activists.

BNP-led 18-party called the countrywide blockade to press home their demand of non-party caretaker government for the next general election.

On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami enforced the nationwide hartal protesting the death warrant of the party’s assistant secretary for his involvement with crimes against humanity during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.
