Jamaat calls hartal for Sunday

DHAKA: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami called dawn-to dusk hartal across the country for Sunday protesting execution of the war crimes convict Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah,.

Acting Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Maqbul Ahmed announced the hartal in a statement immediately after the execution of Quader Mollah

Earlier, Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah, convicted in war crimes cases, was executed at Dhaka Central Jail at 10:01pm on Thursday.

He was the first war crimes convict who had walked to gallows at 10:01pm for committing crimes against humanity during Liberation War in 1971.

Executioner M Shahjahan Bhuiyan hanged the Jamaat leader.
