Jamaat-cops clash kills 1 in Noakhali

NOAKHALI: A vendor was killed and a rickshaw puller sustained bullet injury in a clash between law enforcers and Jamaat-Shibir men in Afania bazaar under Begaumganj upazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Khorshed Alam, 45, a Chotpoti seller.

Witnesses said Jamaat-Shibir men put barricade on Chatkhil-Sonaimuri road in the area at around 2:00am, hours after execution of war crimes convict Quader Mollah. Being obstructed, blockaders locked into clash with RAB, police and BGB men, leaving two injured by bullets.

Later, Khorshed succumbed to his injuries at a local clinic on Friday morning.

Injured rickshaw puller Imam Uddin, 50, was admitted to private clinic in district town.

District Police Super Anisur Rahman PPM confirmed the matter to banglanews.  

Earlier, war crimes convict Quader Mollah walked the gallows on Thursday night in the first-ever execution in a war crimes case.

Later, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami called dawn-to dusk hartal across the country for Sunday protesting execution of the war crimes convict Jamaat leader Quader Mollah.
