Jamaat-cop clash kills one

SATKHIRA: A person was killed in a clash between police and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shinir in Jhaudanga area in the district on Tuesday morning, the fourth day of 83-hour blockade called by 18-party alliance.

The deceased was identified as Hafizur Rahman, 26, son of Baker Ali.

Satkhira district police information officer also sub-Inspector Kamal Hossain told banglanews that Jamaat-Shibir men blocked road in the area at around 9:30am. Being obstructed by police, protesters hurled brick-chips at them that triggered a clash.

Later, police fired several rounds of bullets to bring the situation under control.

During the clash, Hafizur sustained bullet injury.

Later, he was sent to District Sadar Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.

Shibir claimed that the deceased was the activist of the party.
