48-hr ban on bike movement

DHAKA: The Election Commission has imposed 48-hour restriction on motorcycle movement in eight constituencies from January 15 midnight ahead of voting in the constituencies to be held on Thursday.

Earlier on January 5, the voting had been postponed in the constituencies due to violent and subversive activities.

The constituencies are: Dinajpur-4, Kurigram-4, Bogra-7, Gaibandha-1, Gaibandha-3, Gaibandha-4, Jessore-5 and Laxmipur-1.

The ban on bike movement would take effect from 12am Wednesday to Friday midnight.

Besides, all sorts of vehicular movement will be restricted from Wednesday midnight to Thursday midnight.

A total 10, 10,128 voters are set to exercise their franchise in the polls.

Army personnel will be deployed as striking force with other law enforcement agencies in the constituencies to ensure free and fair voting.

By setting up a control room at district sadar, Army personnel will discharge duties through coordination with returning officers.
