Khaleda calls JI to quit violence

DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, also 18-party chief, gave firm directions to Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir to give up violent and subversive activism in the name of political programme.

She said Jamaat leaders, “BNP will not take the responsibilities of Jamaat-Shibir’s subversive activities.”

Khaleda Zia made the remarks in an 18-party meeting on Monday night.

Sources also said that ambassadors of various countries including EU and other influential countries also advised her to leave Jamaat-e-Islami.

Party think tanks also understood that through sabotage they could create panic among the people but could not mass up the support of countrymen, sources added.

However, BNP Chairperson shuns the journalists question about incising relations with Jamaat-e-Islami in a press conference at city’s Westin hostel on Wednesday.
