5 BNP leaders denied bail, remand

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Tuesday rejected the bail and remand pleas to five BNP leaders in two cases filed with Motijheel Thana.

The BNP leaders are Barrister Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar, Shimul Biswas, Rafiqul Islam Mia and Abdul Awal Mintoo.

Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order the investigation officers of the cases produced the BNP leaders before the court seeking a 10-day remand in each case.

The court, however, gave the investigation officers permission to quiz the arrested BNP leaders at the jail gate in five working days.

The court rejected the bail pleas after hearing of the separate bail petitions by the defense lawyers.

On November 8, 2013, police arrested Barrister Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah from the city’s Karwanbazar area.

On the following day, Abdul Awal Mintoo and Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas were also arrested from in front of BNP chairperson’s Gulshan residence.

The five BNP leaders were shown arrested in the two cases filed with Motijheel Thana for vandalism, arson and attacking law enforcers.
