JP candidate wins in Kurigram-4 polls

KURIGRAM: Opposition Jatiya Party candidate Ruhul Amin on Thursday won Kurigram-4 election which was postponed on January 5.

His nearest opponent was Zakir Hossain from ruling Awami League.

According to the unofficial results along with the previously bagged votes, Jatiya Party candidate Ruhul Amin bagged 32,607 votes while Zakir Hossain got 24,939 votes.

Earlier in the day, the voting was underway from 8:00am to 4:00pm in two polling centres where some 3,117 votes out of 7,257 votes were cast.

Additional Police Super of Kurigram-4 M Shahabuddin told banglanews that 28 police and 10 Ansar members were deployed in every centre.

Besides, hundreds of RAB personnel and BGB members discharged their duties under eight magistrates.

Earlier, returning officer postponed the election of Kurigram-4 constituency on allegation of casting fake votes.
