A Dhaka court has sent Nurul Haque Nur, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad and former VP of Daksu, to jail in connection with an arson attack at Kazipara Metrorail Station in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saddam Hossain issued the order after police produced Nur before the court following the completion of a five-day remand on Thursday.

The investigation officer requested that the court keep Nur in custody until the investigation is concluded.

According to the case statement, on July 19, between 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm, around 5,000 to 6,000 miscreants with local weapons, allegedly encouraged by central and local leaders of anti-government protesting parties and organizations, engaged in destructive activities at Kazipara Metrorail Station.

The attack caused an estimated financial loss of Tk 100 crore.
