CHITTAGONG: A local leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was held by police from Andarkilla mosque area of the port city on Monday noon.

The arrestee was identified as Mahbubur Rahman, president of Chittagong’s Kotwali Thana Chhatra Shibir.

Police sources said that, acting on a tip off, a special team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in the area and nabbed him around 12:45pm.

However, Mahbubur was charged against eight cases in several police stations of the city for his alleged involvement in vandalizing vehicles and creating anarchy in the city during hartal days.

Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Thana AKM Mohiuddin Selim confirmed the matter to banglanews.
