DHAKA: The voting in Supreme Court lawyer Association (SCBA) election 2014-15 is underway for second and last day at Supreme Court Lawyers Association from Thursday morning.

Election Sub-Committee convener Noor Hossain said that the two-day long voting started at 10:00am Wednesday and will continue till 5:00pm Thursday.

Some 35 candidates are vying for 14 posts including president and secretarial post.

Some 4,054 voters are exercising their franchise to elect their representatives for one year.

From Sammilito Ainjibi Samannay Parishad, backed by the ruling Awami League (white panel), Law secretary of ruling Awami League Abdul Matin Khasru is competing in the election for president post while Rabiul Alam Badu for secretary.

On the other hand, Khaleda Zia’s advisor, also vice-president of Bangladesh Bar Council, Khandakar Mahbub Uddin is the president candidate of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikyo Forum supported by BNP-led alliance (blue panel) and BNP joint secretary general AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan is its secretary candidate.

Earlier, BNP-backed panel won unanimously the last year’s election of Supreme Court Bar Association where BNP backed lawyers got 13 posts out of 14.
