‘All polls should be partisan’

FROM PIRGANJ: Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday said all elections should be held with direct participation of political parties canceling the existing upazila law.

Joy was addressing at a party council as chief guest organized by the upazila unit of ruling Awami League at Fatehpur village of Priganj upazila at 10:25am.

The premier’s son said historic ‘autocracy’ is the main reason of bad results of Awami League in the recent upazila polls. The autocrats made the upazila polls non-partisan. But, the results count as how many victories to secure by AL candidate and the BNP.

Utilizing the provision of non-party elections, Jamaat-e-Islami, the party which was declared unregistered party by the court, has been getting chance to join in the (ongoing) polls which is really shameful, he added.

Joy raised question on how the election could be a partisan-free one.

He said there were no party influence-free elections in Europe, America, Canada, and India. So we should repeal the upazila law enacted under the autocrats and all election should be take place with direct participation of all the parties.
