Khaleda to appear before court at noon

DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will appear before a Dhaka court on Wednesday noon with a plea for time-extension in Zia orphanage trust and Zia Charitable trust embezzlement cases.

Confirming the matter, Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Advocate Sanaullah Mia told banglanews, “The BNP chairperson is set to appear before the special judge court in old Dhaka around 12:00pm.

BNP Joint Secretary General Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokan, also another lawyer of Khaleda Zia, told banglanews, “Khaleda Zia would appear before the court as the charge framing hearing in the cases is set to hold on Wednesday.”

The High Court decision on a plea to cancel the cases by the accused remained pending, so lawyers of the accused will seek more time for indictment hearing, Advocate Sanaullah said.

The other accused of Zia Orphanage Trust Case are Tarique Rahman, Kazi Sailimullah Haque Kamal alias Econo Kamal and Sharfuddin Ahmed.

Besides, the other accused of Zia Charitable Trust case are Ziaul Islam Munna, Monirul Islam Khan, Khaleda Zia’s forcer political affairs secretary Haris Chowdhury.

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed two cases against them in 2008 and 2011 for embezzling money using the name of the charitable organizations.
