BNP fears ‘vote rigging’ again

DHAKA: BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia expressed apprehension over ‘repeated vote rigging’ in the fourth phase of upazila elections, to be held on Sunday.

Rafiq told the journalists after placing wreaths at the grave of the party founder, also former president, Ziaur Rahman in the city Saturday morning on the occasion of the 26th founding anniversary of Zia Parisahd.

Terming the incumbent government a contrary to the country’s constitution, the BNP senior leader said, it had already been proved in the last three phases of upazila polls that fair election is not possible under this government.

‘Fear arose whether this 4th phase of upazila election would be fair as attacks are being carried out on the BNP-backed candidates, polling agents, and party leaders and activists in addition to vandalizing houses, looting and attempting to murders,’ he added.

BNP chairperson’s advisor Shamsuzzaman Dudu and Zia Parishad president Kabir Murad along with scores of party leaders and activists also paid tribute to Zia.
