DHAKA: BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan on Friday alleged that duration of the Speedy Trial Act has been extended by five years to exclude BNP and political parties from elections.
Nazrul came up with the allegation when took part a human chain in front of National Press Club of the city in the morning.
The parliament on Thursday passed “Law and Order Disruption (Speedy Trial) (Amendment) Bill, 2014” with extension by five years by voice vote.
The Speedy Trial Act deals with serious crimes such as extortion, vandalism and tender manipulation.
State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal tabled the bill at the parliament session.
