Martyr Selim`s family to file case against Ershad

DHAKA: The family members of slain Chhatra League leader Ibrahim Selim moved to sue ex-military ruler HM Ershad as the student leader was killed during movement against his regime.

M Hafizur Rahman, brother of Selim, said he has already consulted lawyers.

He also told banglanews that he has taken advice from a former justice about filing the case.

But Hafizur Rahman wouldn’t name the lawyer to be hired for the legal battle over the action of the Ershad regime against the ‘anti-autocracy’ movement in the 1980s.

He said, ”Our family is taking preparation to file the case and some of my friends are assisting us in this regard.”

Another source said some classmates of the late Selim who are also lawyers of the Supreme Court and the High Court would move for the case.

On February 28, 1984, Chattara League leader Ibrahim Selim and Delawr were crushed under the wheels of a truck while they had joined an anti-autocracy procession at Fulbaria old bus stand, now in front of Zaker Market.

But they could not file any case against the then military ruler HM Ershad for fear.

Hafiz filed a murder case with Ramna Thana on December 6, 1990 within a week after the fall of the Ershad government.

Dorith, daughter of Selim, said,” Friends of my father are now high officials, billionaires. But I have lost my father and so I could not complete my studies. Now I want trial of my father’s killer, Ershad.”
