Govt wallowing in corruption carnival with open declaration: Delwar

DHAKA: Opposition BNP Secretary-General Khandakar Delwar Hossain Wednesday alleged the government is wallowing in a carnival of corruption on “open declaration”.

In this context, Delwar cited PM’s Health Adviser Dr Modasser’s reported remarks that no appointment would take place without candidates’ party affiliations. “They are politicizing all sectors. Candidates are being considered qualified for appointment if they can only chant the name of father of the nation,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the reaction while addressing a discussion meet at the National Press Club Wednesday. Zia Parshad organized the discussion marking the jail release day of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her elder son and also party senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman.

Delwar also pointed out the recent presidential clemency and said the position of the President lays above all questions and controversies. He (President) can give mercy anyone if he wants and there is no way to raise question in this regard.

“But, the release of convicts in a murder case under presidential amnesty is against democracy and justice,” he said.

Release of Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahmas is not a result of any kindness. BNP and country’s people freed them through movement, Delwar told his audience.

He called upon all to free the country’s people from the clutches of what he called autocratic rulers. “Nothing could be achieved without movement,” he said.

Adviser to the BNP Chairperson Shamsuzzaman Dudu, JAGPA president Shafiul Alam Pradhan and general secretary Khandakar Lutfor Rahman also spoke at the function presided over by Zia Parishad president Kabir Murad.
