PARBATIPUR, DINAJPUR: The half day hartal, called by Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal, is underway in the upazila on Sunday demanding the punishment of the killer of Juba Dal leader.

Picketers put barricade and set fire on various roads of the upazila.

Meanwhile, all types shops remained closed and vehicles services were stopped.

Besides, picketers vandalized couple of vehicles including a Jeep of upazila parisad.

Witnesses said the hartal supporters also cut the hosepipe of a Bogra-bound train and took away the key of interlocking switch cabin of the Parbatipur railway station that disrupted train communication.

Interlocking Switch Cabin Assistant Station Master Abdur Razzak confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Additional law enforcers were deployed in the area to bring the situation under control.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rahenul and Model Thana Officer-in-Charge Shawkat Ali and GRP thana Officer-in-Charge Saju Mia confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Earlier on Saturday, centering the grab of an abandoned house of railway, activists of Chhatra league chopped Juba Dal leader Rabiul Islam Babul with lethal weapon, leaving him critically injured.

Later, he died on the way to Rangpur Medical College.
