Govt forms “killing squad” to thwart opposition

DHAKA: Opposition BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday alleged that the government has formed a “torture squad” with high officials of police preventing leaders and activities of the opposition.

“The government has formed torture squad and taskforce to stop the movement of the opposition party and we heard that the squad will later turn into a killing squad,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the allegation while talking to journalists at a press conference at the party’s headquarters at Nayapaltan in the capital.

Rizvi also alleged that the government is making its last ditch effort to thwart the opposition through what he termed its “loyal administration”.

He also claimed that the people of the country have started taking their position against crimes, violence, oppression, torture, looting and murder of the government.

The spokesperson for the party also alleged that the government is involved in connection of abduction of journalist Amir Khasru on Thursday.

Rizvi also said the government is creating crisis in the country to bypass the demand of the caretaker government.

He added: “But the government has forgotten the previous history. This effort had never been successful in the past.”

Dhaka City BNP member secretary Abdus Salam, education affairs secretary Khayrul Kabir Khokon and Jubo Dal senior vice-president Advocate Abdus Salam were among others present at the press meet.
