5 vehicles torched, hurt 20

SAVAR, DHAKA: Some 20 people were injured in a clash between picketers and police during the first day of 60-hour hartal, called by the 18-party alliance, in Savar-Ashulia area on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile hartal supporters torched five vehicles in different places of the upazila.

Witnesses said that the hartal supporters took out the procession and torched four passenger buses and a Leguna (human hauler) in Kabirpur and Tongibari areas of Ashulia at around 6am.

On information, police rushed to the spot and obstructed the hartal supporters that triggered a fierce clash between them, leaving 20 people injured in the area.

Being informed from police, two units of fire fighters from Savar fire service rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.

Additional Police Super of Dhaka Golam Mostofa Russel visited the spot.
