Mufti Harun on 15-day remand

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Mufti Harun Izhar, son of Hefajat-e-Islam Nayeb-e-Amir Mufti Izharul Islam, on a 15-day remand for police interrogation in three cases for arson and violence at Shapla Chattar.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Erfan Ullah passed the order when Paltan Thana Police produced him before the court with 40-day remand plea in four cases.

On October 7, a massive explosion at the Jamiatul Uloom Al-Islamia Madrasa run by the senior Nayeb-e-Ameer of Hefajat-e-Islam Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury at Lalkhan Bazar, leaving at least five people injured critically.

Of the injured, four students succumbed to their injuries at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Police recovered four hand grenades and explosive-making materials from the madrasa dormitory. Three cases were filed, accusing 12 individuals, including Mufti Izhar.

On October 8, in a drive at his father-in-laws house at Hathazari of Chittagong, police arrested Mufti Izhar and sent to Dhaka on October 25.
