Bashundhara Kings lift hat-trick title of Women’s League

The powerhouse of the country’s domestic football, Bashundhara Kings, touched another milestone as they secured their third consecutive title of Women’s Football League with an all win record in the 2021-22 edition of the domestic competition on Friday.

Kings, who had been unbeaten for last 10 matches, secured a 2-0 goals win over their nearest opponent Ataur Rahman Bhuyan College Sporting Club in their must-winning last match at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Sepoy Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur of the capital.

Before the match, both Kings and ARBCSC had 30 points from their 10 wins each, though Kings were dominating the top of the 12-team leaderboard by virtue of better goal difference +97, in contrast of ARBCSC’s +68.

After a barren first half, Kings defender Sheuli Azim handed a 1-0 lead in the 82nd minute utilizing a defensive error closer to the ARBCSC goalline.

Kings got another chance just a few minutes before the final whistle when they were awarded the penalty on handball. Defender Shamsunnahar (sr) made no mistake to double the margin 2-0 converting the spot kick in the 90+1st minute.

The giants of Bangladesh women’s league showed an excellent performance in the league this year. They scored a total of 100 goals in their 11 matches while conceded only one against Suddhopuskorini Jubo in their sixth match.

Kings captain and key player Sabina Khatun scored 19 goals while forward Sirat Jahan Shopna scored 12 and Krishna Rani Sarkar, Shamsunnahar (sr) 11 goals each, though ARBCSC defender  Aklima Khatun became the top scorer of the league with her 25 goals.

Kings women’s football team, who have been participating in the women's league since the third edition in 2020, clinched titles two times in 2019–20 and 2020–21.

Kings men’s football team also registered their name in the country’s domestic football history when they secured the top tier professional football league ‘Bangladesh Premier League 2021-22' title for the third time in a row in July this year.

They clinched their first and second titles in the seasons of 2018-19 and 2021 while the season of 2019–20 was abandoned due to Covid.
