Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the demise of the greatest footballer of all times Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pele).

In a condolence letter sent to Brazilian President Luiz In cio Lula da Silva, Sheikh Hasina wrote "On behalf of the people of Bangladesh and on my own behalf, I express our deepest condolences at the demise of the Brazilian World Cup hero and greatest footballer of all times, Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pele)."

She noted that Pele, with his aesthetic athletic charisma and spirit, projected the power of sports to unite the whole world and applauded people with a massive wave of joy, according to the Prime Minister's Press Wing.

She said "Three times World Cup winner profoundly impacted the hearts of the people of Bangladesh. He is a true inspiration for our football-loving people."

She added "I trust the goodwill ambassador of your beautiful country shall remain alive in our people's minds in all days to come."

Sheikh Hasina said that the hearts and minds of millions of Bangladeshi at home and abroad went out in mourning at the saddest passing of the Football King Pele.

She offered her prayers and expressed sincere sympathies to alleviate the pain of the bereaved family members and global fans and followers of magical Pele at this irreparable loss.
