The men’s and women’s teams of the country’s top outfit Bashundhara Kings were accorded receptions in the inaugural programme of the Bashundhara Kings Winter Badminton Carnival 2023, title sponsored by Bashundhara Kings and powered by ALM Real Estate Ltd, held at the Dhali Fitness Center in the city’s Bashundhara Residential area on Monday.
Bashundhara Kings women’s team touched another milestone as they clinched their third consecutive title of the Women’s Football League with an all-win record in the 2021-22 edition of the domestic competition in December.
They previously clinched titles two times in 2019–20 and 2020–21.
Meanwhile, Bashundhara Kings men’s team registered their name in the country’s domestic football history when they secured the top-tier professional football league ‘Bangladesh Premier League 2021-22’ title for the third time in a row in July this year.
They earlier clinched their first and second titles in the seasons of 2018-19 and 2021 while the season of 2019–20 was abandoned due to Covid.
Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam, Kaler Kantho Editor-in-Chief Imdadul Haq Milan, Kings President and Bangladesh Football Federation Vice-President Imrul Hassan and News24 Executive Editor Rahul Raha handed over the crests to the players, coaching staff and officials of the men’s and women’s teams.
The programme started with a Quran recitation, followed by a maiden speech from the general secretary of Bashundhara Kings Winter Badminton Carnival 2023 Jasim Uddin.
Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, Imdadul Haq Milan, Naem Nizam and Rahul Raha wished their best to both teams of Kings and congratulated its president Imrul for their feats in domestic football.
“I had started my journalism career as a sports reporter. I have a friendship with the country’s prominent sporting personalities including the Incumbent president of Bangladesh Football Federation Kazi Salahuddin. I have a very good relationship with Imrul Hassan. I have seen spontaneity, deep passion for sports in him,” Enamul said.
“I think he is one of the most popular faces in our sports fraternity, especially in the football fraternity. He has a huge fan base and I believe his fans want to see him at the top position of the country's football in the future. I also request him to arrange a grand celebration for the Bashundhara Kings men’s and women’s teams who have made history in domestic football,” the Daily Sun Editor added.
Meanwhile, Bashundhara Kings Winter Badminton Carnival 2023 will be started today with the slogan ‘Dare to be a Champion’ at the Dhali Fitness Center. A total of 28 shuttlers from 14 pairs split into two groups Jamuna and Padma are taking part in this edition of the event. Kings President Imrul will also participate in the competition. The final of the tournament will be held on January 10.
The vice-president and general secretary of Carnival 2023 Ataur Rahman Dhali and Jasim Uddin handed over a crest to Kings president Imrul.
Thanking the Winter Badminton Carnival 2023 organizers for the receptions, Imrul said, “Team Badminton honored our men’s and women’s football team. It is a big achievement. Bashundhara Kings has become a brand in our football. And it has been working for the development of football. Chairman Sir, MD Sir and his other sons have always been inspiring us. I salute our both teams, players and coaches. It is rare to have domestic hat-trick titles in both men's and women's categories in a club's history. We have made it, so we are trying to put this record in the Guinness book.”
