Joyful Bangladesh humbled T20 world champions England at ZACs in their first ever bilateral match in the format. Star-studded high-flying England were stunned and grounded by spirited Bangladesh gunning down 157 runs target that was set in brilliant fashion.
It was a brilliant achievement by Bangladesh a team comprising of few rookies playing fearless cricket. First, they stalled England going great guns with probing bowling and sharp fielding. After reaching 80/1 by the 10th Over England could only manage 156/6.
Bangladesh chased with a purpose. Shanto and debutant Hridoy plundering 65 runs in the 3rd wicket stroke full partnership gave winning momentum. Champion Shakib put the icing on the cake with unbeaten 34 in 24 balls. Bangladesh won huge and handsome by 6 wickets.
By any stretch of imagination England was run away favorites. Bangladesh never considered a force to reckon with. But circumstances alter cases. England put into bat stormed the ZAC scoring 80 in the first wicket partnership. It was going along smoothly till 16th over. The score was 3/138.
There was a thought that England could even reach close to 200. Suddenly young Hasan Mahmud bowling with venom got rid of English captain Buttler for well made 67 of 42 deliveries. English innings stuttered. They only manage reaching 156/6.
Bangladesh made a statement of fearless cricket with back to team again Rony Talukdar struck some vital blows. Though England managed removing Litton (12) and Rony ( 21) by the 5th over Shanto and Rookie Shanto savagely attacked English bowling . They ran their runs smartly. The venom was taken out of English bowling as free stroking Nazmul Shanto (51) and Towhid Hridoy (24) 65 precious runs in a hurry.
The tempo created in the process kept Tigers going. Finally, it was left to best all rounder in all format caping it all scoring well measured unbeaten 34 in 24 deliveries. Bangladesh surprised and shocked world champions by 6 wickets. It was a brilliant win by a young team.
Well done team tigers for making Bangladesh proud again. Bangladesh bowled without panicking, batted with a purpose. These young legs maturing will grow from strength to strength if cared well.
