Bangladesh Eves Escaped Series Whitewash

Bangladesh Vs India Women T20 Series

Indian Women: 102/9 in 20 Overs (Harmanpreet Kaur 40, Jemimah Rodrigues 28,
Rabeya Khan 3/16, Sultana Khatun 2/17)

Bangladesh Women: 103/6 in 18.3 Overs (Shamima Sultana 42, Devika Vaidya
2/16, Minnu Mani 2/28)

Bangladesh Women Won by 4 wickets.

Indian Women Won the Series 2-1

Player of the Match: Shamima Sultana

Like the Bangladesh male team, the eves were also on the threshold of getting whitewashed in the bilateral T20 series against Indian eves at SBNCS, Dhaka. As did the men’s team they also avoided getting whitewashed winning the third match.

However, apart from the first match the second and third were far more competitive. Bangladesh bowled and fielded well. Bangladeshi girls could win the series if their batsmen could apply better. Winning the second T20 match was also within their grip. Hope our girls will learn a lot from the series. Their general approach is batting across the line.

In the very important 3 rd match Bangladesh struck early removing Indian openers Smriti Mandana and Shefali Verma within 3.4 overs with 20 on board. Sultana
Khatun removed both.

From there on Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (40) and Jemimah Rodrigues ( 28) put up a partnership of 45 in the third wicket. Shorna Akter and Fahima Khatun removed both before they could harm greater damage.

There on Bangladeshi spinners mostly leg spinners restricted India to 102/9 taking wickets regularly. It was interesting noting that men’s team is struggling to find a quality leg spinners. But women’s team has a few. Rabeya Khan (3/16) and Sultana Khatun (2/17) were two main wicket takers.

At innings break it was still not sure whether Bangladesh can successfully chase.

But this time Shamima Sultana batted with passion and commitment leading the charge with a polished 42 in 46 deliveries. Bangladesh hopped across the target in 18.3 overs winning by 4 wickets. Indian girls won the series 2-1.

I believe there was very little to choose between the teams. Bangladesh needs paying greater attention to their batting specially in skills and application.

The bowling and fielding also needs sharpening for proving more competitive. Well done eves.
