Asia Cup: Tigers to play group matches in SL, Pakistan

Bangladesh will begin their upcoming Asia Cup campaign against Sri Lanka in Kandy, Sri Lanka on August 31, a day after the tournament gets underway in Multan, Pakistan with the match between Pakistan and Nepal.

The Tigers will play their second and last Group B match against Afghanistan on September 3 in Lahore, Pakistan while the high-voltage Group A encounter between India and Pakistan will be held on September 2 in Kandy.

The Asian Cricket Council President Jay Shah on Wednesday confirmed the fixture and venues of the upcoming 50-over edition of Asia Cup on his verified twitter account.
“I am happy to announce the schedule for the highly anticipated Men’s ODI #AsiaCup2023, a symbol of unity and togetherness binding diverse nations together! Let’s join hands in the celebration of cricketing excellence and cherish the bonds that connect us all,” he tweeted.

Pakistan will host a total of four matches out of 13 games of the tournament including the first super four match in Lahore. Sri Lanka will host the remaining nine matches including five super four matches and the final at two different venues.

If Bangladesh can qualify for the super four, they will take B2 position while Sri Lanka will take B1 seedings in their group. And it means, the Tigers will have to face Pakistan, who will remain as A1, in their first super four match in Lahore on September 6.

Bangladesh will play their remaining matches respectively on September 9 and 15 (possibly against Sri Lanka and India) in Colombo upon their qualification in the super four stage.

If Afghanistan can qualify for the super four, they will take either Bangladesh or Sri Lanka’s position (the team who won’t make it to the super four).

The final will be held in Colombo on September 17.
