Strong India just returning from triumphant Asia Cup won easy by 5 wickets against hot and cold Australia also fresh from a series defeat against South Africa.

With the ICC World Cup starting after couple of weeks’ time India rested big guns, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli. Kuldeep Yadab and Mohammad Siraj. Australia was without injured Travis Head and did not play Glen Maxwell, Mitchel Starc and Aston Ager. The way rusty looking Australia struggled in posting below par 276 all out against a little understrength Indian attack and tried to defend it left lot to desire from them for proving them as one of the favorites for this years World Cup. Several players Warner (54), Smith (41), Labuschagne (39), Cameroon Green (31), Marcus Stoinis (29) got start but none could make it big to facilitate a more challenging target for team India. Australian bowlers could not contain much more fluent and versatile Indian batting as they eased across the target scoring 281/5 with 8 balls to spare. Formidable India proved that they are well prepared for the world cup.

India winning the toss and elected to field. India strategically rested some of their top guns to try out some fringe players for final selection of the world cup squad. Ruturaj Gaikwad came in for Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer for Kohli, Ravichandra Ashwin for Kuldeep Yadav. Shami played in absence of Mohammad Seraj. Shami struck early blow removing Mitchel Marsh with a beautiful swinging delivery. Two veterans David Warner (52) and Steven Smith (41) had to contain very incisive Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami applying their full concentration. The second wicket partnership of 94 was curtailed when Warner to play one shot too many lost his wicket to Jadeja after scoring a good looking 52. Shami produced yet another great delivery to subdue Smith (41). After them it became a real struggle for Australian batsmen to keep the flow of runs going. Ravichandra Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja bowled tight. Josh Englis (45), Cameroon Green (31) and Marcus Stoinis (29) had start but their innings were cut short as soon as they tried to change gear. 276 All out on a wicket not doing much was not that Australia could defend. On a hot humid day Shami bowled exceptionally well taking 5/51.

Indian openers Shubman Gill (74) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (71) putting together fluent 142 for the fist wicket set the tone for the Indian innings as Aussie bowling struggled in coming to terms with Indian wicket. Once the openers set the tone Suryakumar Yadav (50) and Captain KL Rahul (58*) led the team across the finishing tape. However, Sreyas Iyer (3) and Ishan Kishan (18) could not utilize the opportunity. Only Adam Zampa taking 2/57 could impress. Australia must adjust quickly to Indian condition as they looked bit rusty and hesitant. India has now so many options.
