Happy Black Caps from down under New Zealand keeping their momentum going consolidated the top position of CWC 2023 winning by 99 runs against Netherlands at Hyderabad on Monday (October 9).

Kane Willaimson their iconic leader and Tim Southee their premiere pace bowler is waiting on the wings to join the team. Black caps are looking good to advance to elite group of the top four executing their mission clinically. For the second match on the trot Netherlands also competed well against strong opposition. They did not look like lost as toddlers among the big fish. Batting first Kiwis scored impressive 322/7 in allotted overs. Netherlands could go as far as 223 all out in 46.3 overs and lost by 99 runs. New Zealand will play Bangladesh in their next match at Chennai on 13 October. Netherlands plays South Africa on 17 October at Dharamshala.

Netherlands winning the toss elected to fields. They started bowling tight. Black caps could not score any tun in the first three overs. But after that Will Young and Devon Conway started cutting loose. But before flamboyant black cap openers could make major damage Conway was removed by van der Merwe. The opening pair put on 67 runs. Rachin Ravindra, centurion of the impressive win in the first match against England set a solid foundation of the Kiwi innings along with enterprising Will Young putting up 77 useful runs for the 2nd wicket. Young scored 70 of 80 deliveries, Ravindra scored 51.

Prime form of Kiwi top order now created a sweet dilemma of plenty for the team management. Where to fit in the maestro Kane Willamson as he is set to play in the next match and lead now looking set to advance to business session. Daryl Mitchell (48) and Tom Latham (51) also looked impressive as New Zealand rattled to post 322/7 in their 50 overs. All rounder Mitchell Santer also played an unbeaten cameo of 36 in 17 balls. Can not say Netherland was completely blown out. They bowled well within their humble capacity and did not let black caps batting them completely out of the match.

However, New Zealand bowling attack even without Tim Southee looked great. Though Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson went wicket less, Mitchell Santner (5/59) and Mat Henry (3/40) took charge and restricted Netherlands to 2223 all out in 46.3 Overs. Colin Ackerman scoring 69 in 73 balls provided the major resistance. Captain Scot Edwards scored 30. Netherlands are not looking out of sorts in the big league and having great lessons playing against top oppositions.

Winning two in two black caps look set to qualify for the semifinals. It looks well organized having all bases covered. Netherlands are also proving that they are not mere push overs. No team should take at all lightly. Mitchell Santner for his brilliant all-round performance was adjudged player of the match.
