Bangladesh all out for 188, trail Sri Lanka by 92

Bangladesh put a poor batting display to be all out for just 188 runs in its first innings of the opening game of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today (March 23).

The Tigers conceded a 92-run lead as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 280 in their first innings early on day one.

Resuming the day two at 32-3, Bangladesh added 156 runs for the rest of the seven wickets. They were indeed all out just on the stroke of tea as Sri Lanka seamers took all 10 wickets in a gem of pace bowling display.

Taijul Islam, who came to bat as night watchman late at day one, was the top-scorer for Bangladesh with 47 off 80, hitting six fours. Liton Das made next-best 25 while Khaled Ahmed contributed 22. Khaled and Shoriful who made 15, struck two sixes each to help the side cut  Sri Lanka’s lead down to 100 after Bangladesh were at 148-8.

Vishwa Fernando claimed 4-48 for Sri Lanka while his fellow pacers Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara took three wickets apiece.

Earlier, Sri Lanka recovered from 57-5 to post 280 before being all out on day one thanks to 102 runs each from skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis.
