Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 328 runs in the first Test of the two-match series at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today (March 25).

Mominul remained unbeaten on 87 as the hosts got bundled out for 182 in their chase for an improbable 511-run target on Day 4.

This marks Sri Lanka's second-largest triumph (in terms of runs) in Test cricket and their initial victory in the ongoing World Test Championship.

Bangladesh faced a daunting challenge, needing to chase down 511 runs. They struggled immensely, finding themselves at 51/6, indicating imminent defeat.

However, Mominul's determination allowed him to play a resilient innings, thwarting Sri Lankan bowlers for a considerable duration today.

Mominul and Mehidy Hasan Miraz collaborated for a 66-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Nevertheless, Rajitha, claiming 3-48, broke through as Miraz's aggressive stroke resulted in an outside edge after his valuable 33 off 50, adorned with six fours.

Shoriful Islam displayed some resistance, but fell for 12, and the last two batsmen, Khaled Ahmed and Nahid Rana, were dismissed without scoring, concluding Bangladesh's innings at 182 runs.

Five Bangladeshi batsmen - Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shahadat Hossain, Litton Das, Khaled Ahmed, and Nahid Rana - were dismissed for ducks in the second innings.

Sri Lanka showcased several outstanding performances, highlighting the contrast between the two teams. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis were exceptional with the bat across both innings, securing centuries and etching their names into the record books.

Sri Lanka posted 280 runs in the first innings, with both captain Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis scoring centuries. After dismissing Bangladesh for 188, de Silva and Kamindu once again reached centuries as Sri Lanka amassed 418 runs in their second innings, setting a daunting target of 511 runs for Bangladesh.
