Kings poised for fifth consecutive BPL title

Bashundhara Kings are going to usher in a new era of dominance in professional domestic football as they are on the verge of clinching their fifth consecutive Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title.

Last year, Kings became the first club in the 76-year history of the country’s football to be crowned four league titles in a row.

The fifth consecutive title of the ongoing ABG Bashundhara BPL 2023-24 will make the Bangladesh giants invincible as well as set up a new milestone for the other professional clubs of the country.

However, reigning champions Kings are still a step away from their fifth title as they need 4 more points from their remaining four BPL matches.

But if the holders beat Mohammedan Sporting Club in the next match of round 15, scheduled to be held on Saturday at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh, they will confirm the title with three-match to spare.

Kings have 37 points from 14 matches, nine-point ahead of second-placed Mohammedan SC, who have 28 points from 14 matches.

The round 15 will kick off today with two matches – Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd vs Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society at the Shaheed Bir Shreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj and Abahani Ltd Dhaka vs Police Football Club at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj.

On the very next day on Saturday, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd will meet Chittagong Abahoni Ltd in Munshiganj and Brothers Union Ltd will meet Fortis FC at the Muktijuddho Sriti Stadium in Rajshahi in the other two games.

All matches will kick off at 4:00pm (BST).
