Nazmul Hassan Papon officially resigned as president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Wednesday, as confirmed by board sources.
Former national team captain and ex-chief selector Faruque Ahmed is expected to be the new BCB president.
The announcement followed an emergency meeting of BCB directors, held at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Papon, who was expected to join the meeting virtually, used the occasion to formally announce his resignation. He had previously hinted at his decision to a BCB director.
Papon first assumed the role of BCB president in 2012 as a government-appointed nominee and was elected to the position the following year. He has since served three consecutive terms as the elected president.
In addition to his BCB duties, Papon has been an elected Member of Parliament for the Kishoreganj-6 constituency since 2009. In January, he was also assigned the role of Minister of Youth and Sports.
