India win Kanpur Test series 2-0 against Bangladesh

India secured a comfortable victory over Bangladesh on the final day of the Test, winning by seven wickets after bundling out the visitors for 146 before lunch.

Chasing a modest target of 95, India reached 98-3 in just 104 balls during the second session.

Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge with a quickfire 50 off 43 balls, including eight boundaries and a six, before falling to Taijul Islam after a 58-run partnership with Virat Kohli. Kohli remained unbeaten on 29, while Rishabh Pant sealed the win with a boundary.

Bangladesh spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz immediately dismissed India’s openers, Rohit Sharma (8) and Shubman Gill (6), but it wasn’t enough to stop India's momentum.

The win extends India's lead at the top of the World Test Championship rankings, ahead of Australia. Jaiswal's aggressive 72 in the first innings had put India in command despite losing two full days of play to rain.

Earlier, Bangladesh resumed their second innings at 26-2, trailing by 26 runs, but collapsed quickly. Shadman Islam top-scored with 50, but the rest of the lineup faltered. Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah each took three wickets, with Bumrah dismissing Mushfiqur Rahim (37) to end Bangladesh’s resistance.

Ashwin struck early, removing first-innings centurion Mominul Haque for 2, and Jadeja bowled captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (19) shortly after. Shadman reached his half-century but was dismissed soon after by Akash Deep. Jadeja also dismissed veteran allrounder Shakib Al Hasan, who fell without scoring in what might be his final Test after announcing his retirement before the match.

Bangladesh was bowled out for 233 in their first innings on Monday, with India declaring 285-9 from just 34.4 overs in response.

The two teams will head into a three-match T20 series starting Sunday in Gwalior.
