DHAKA: The Chinese online game market has sees significant growth in recent years due to the increasing availability of internet services, the government’s policy support, and the emergence of mobile game consumers.

China’s online game market passed the CNY 100 billion (approximately USD 16.1 billion) milestone in 2014 with the value reaching CNY 114.5 billion for 37.7 percent year-on-year growth.

For the first time, mobile game sales surpassed desktop PC game sales at CNY 27.5 billion, according to a report by MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a Taipei-ICT based ICT research institute.

China is expected to overtake the US in 2016 as the world's largest online game market, report authors believe. With a market value of USD 22 billion, the US remained the No.1 online game market worldwide in 2014.

However, boosted by the accelerated expansion of the mobile game market, development of the console game market, and the emergence of the post-90's generation (also known as the ‘two-dimensional generation’), China’s online game market value is expected to top CNY 150 billion in 2016.

Worldwide mobile game market value is expected to reach USD 35 billion in 2017 from USD 20 billion in 2014 with an increase in its market share from 25 percent to 35 percent, reports telecompaper.com.
