Tk 1-lakh bounty for info on illegal VoIP use

DHAKA: Post and Telecommunication ministry declared one lakh reward for each person who will provide information about illegal use of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol).

The ministry’s public relations officer (PRO) Enayet Hossain informed the matter to the media on Thursday afternoon.

He said that as per the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulation Act, 2001 illegal VoIP call transmission is the punishable offense.

Government has been conducting drives against illegal VoIP for several years.

If anybody provides accurate information about the matter, they will be given Tk 1-lakh as reward, he added.

However, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that allows making voice calls using a broadband internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line.

The information can be sent to post and telecommunication division secretary and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission chairman, the PRO said.
