GP to provide free Wi-Fi across country

DHAKA: Mobile phone operator Grameenphone (GP) will provide free Wi-Fi service for its subscribers across the country.

The Wi-Fi network will primarily be installed at 30 important points by the end of this year.

Primarily it will be a trial project and the GP subscribers will get free Wi-Fi for first three months.

A GP press release told the media on Monday (November 16).

Country’s largest internet service provider (ISP) ‘Amra Network’ will provide technical assistance in this regard, it added.

According to the release, when the GP subscribers will go to the Wi-Fi hot spot zone and open their Wi-Fi option, they will find a GP Wi-Fi SSID (service set identifier).

Then they will need to register with GP number and receive a Wi-Fi confirmation SMS.

The release further said that this facility will be a part of GP initiative to ensure ‘internet for all’ in Bangladesh as well as to expand the operator’s service network to provide faster 3G connection.
