DHAKA: Apple has announced that it will be opening its first iOS app development centre in Europe at a partner institution in Naples, Italy.

The programme will be the first of many, said Apple, as the company seeks to give students practical skills and training on developing iOS apps, reports the telecompaper.com

Specifically, the centre will support teachers and provide a specialised curriculum preparing thousands of future developers to be part of Apple’s developer community.

The US Company will also work with partners around Italy who deliver developer training to complement this curriculum and create additional opportunities for students.

No details were provided as to when the Naples-based hub will open.

Apple backed up its decision to open a centre in Italy by claiming that its App Store has helped create over 75,000 jobs in the country alone.

Companies that have taken advantage of the mobile ecosystem include IK Multimedia, which has had over 25 million downloads since launching its first app in 2009, and travel booking app Musement, which launched in 2013 and is now available in seven languages and 300 cities across 50 countries.

In Europe, the company said its ecosystem has helped developers earn over EUR 10.2 billion from selling their apps around the world.

“Europe is home to some of the most creative developers in the world and we’re thrilled to be helping the next generation of entrepreneurs in Italy get the skills they need for success,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook in the statement.

iOS is Apple's proprietary mobile operating system (OS) for its handheld devices, such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
