Bangladesh eyes hat-trick global IT awards

DHAKA: Four projects of Access to Information (A2I) taken by the Prime Minister’s office (PMO) have been nominated for WSIS (World Summit on the Information Society) award- 2016.

It will be the hat-trick chance for Bangladesh in winning the world’s most prestigious prize in technology, if people vote the government projects.

Bangladesh has to face vote battle with other countries for the award as in the past two years. Anybody can vote for Bangladesh using their respective emails until March 10.

There are 18 categories to be voted.

Every year, United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) has been awarding this prize as recognition of innovation of the basic and public welfare-related technology and providing these services through IT technologies.

This year, the nominated projects for WSIS Award 2016 are four innovative initiatives of A2I – SPS for Increased Transparency, Efficiency and Responsiveness for Category-6, Development of the Web-based Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) Application System of the Department of Environment for Category-7, Teachers Portal for Empowerment for Category-9 and Krishoker Janala (Farmer’s Window) for Category-13.
