DHAKA: Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said that the government has finished the half work for Digital Bangladesh project and the other half will be fulfilled by the young generation of the country using the updated technology.

‘Because, to stop corruption in the country the youth will use technology as main weapon, which is very effective to spot out the wrong deeds,’ he added.

The minister came up with this assertion while speaking as chief guest at the closing ceremony of 3-day Bangladesh ICT Expo-2016 in Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) of the city on Saturday (March 5).

He challenged the members of Bangladesh Computer Association (BCA) and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) to cover Dhaka city under broadband network.

Besides, citing the success of the ruling government to rebuild Digital Bangladesh, he also hoped to build the modern Bangladesh by 2021.

Information and Technology Division state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak said they are putting emphasis on hardware, software and services which can be main earning source by employing a large number of people.

Bangladesh can be a role model on these three sectors and the local technology firms such as Walton, Amra and Aplomb Tech will overrule the giant companies like Dell, Samsung and HP. People can invest in the country’s IT sector, he added.

Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology ministry affairs parliamentary standing committee secretary Imran Ahmed urged the government to make the hardware sector tax-free.

Information and Technology Division secretary Shyam Shundor Shikdar and Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) president AHM Mahfuzul Arif were present at the concluding ceremony.
