‘SIMs not to be barred due to biometric error’

DHAKA: Posts and telecommunications state minister Tarana Halim said that cell phone SIMs will not be closed due to the biometric error.

She made this assertion while visiting Grameenphone Service Center in city’s Farmgate area on Friday afternoon (April 29).

According to her, so far 1.22-crore subscribers did not find their biometric similarity with National Identity (NID) cards during SIMs re-registration.

‘Their SIMs will not be barred,’ the state minister added.

She further said no one will face SIM connection related difficulties for the wrong information in their NID cards.

Tarana informed the media that as many as 8.38-crore SIMs out of 13-crore have been re-registered by Friday (April 29).

Moreover, she will announce the extension of date of biometric SIM registration at a press conference to be held at Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Bhaban in city at 5:00pm on Saturday (30).
