Mobile phone users to pay more

DHAKA: The mobile phone users will have to pay more as the supplementary tax on service of SIM or RIM has been proposed to increase by five percent from three percent this year.

Finance minister AMA Muhith came up with the disclosure while placing budget of 2016-17 fiscal year on Thursday (June 2).

The tax on mobile SIM had been decreased in last budget. This year, five percent supplementary tax will be added on the SIM or RIM service with additional 15 percent VAT and one percent surcharge, he added.

However, the tax on mobile phone SIM or RIM card remained unchanged this year which is Tk 100.

Some supplementary tax of 35 percent has been added for supplying the SIM or RIM card.
