ICT export to cross 1 billion dollars by 2018

DHAKA: Prime Minister’s information and communication technology affairs advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy categorically said that the export revenue from ICT sector will cross one billion dollars by 2018.

He came up with this assertion while delivering speech at the opening ceremony of two-day Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Summit Bangladesh 2016 at a city hotel on Thursday (July 28).

ICT division and Bangladesh Association of Call Centre Outsourcing (BACCO) jointly organized the program.

Mentioning country’s highest revenue earning from readymade garments (RMG) sector, Joy said that the government has set a target to increase the revenue income from ICT sector by 2021.

“Export revenue from ICT sector will cross one billion dollars by 2018,” he hoped.

He further said that Bangladesh has achieved second position in socio-economic development index in south Asia. “The government is working to make Bangladesh a higher middle income country by 2021. ICT sector needs to play an important role in fulfilling the target,” he added.

The advisor claimed that the ICT sector achieved a great success nationally and internationally in last seven years.

ICT state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) secretary general Houlin Zhao, posts, telecommunications and information technology ministry’s parliamentary standing committee chairman Imran Ahmed, among others, were present at the event.

Moreover, the two-day summit will include 12 seminars and workshops. On the concluding day, awards will be given to the successful entrepreneurs in country’s BPO sector.
