Internet shutdown drill to continue

DHAKA: Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) will continue the shutdown drills of internet and telecommunication aiming to face any emergency.

BTRC chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmud made this disclosure at a press conference at the commission building in city on Wednesday (August 3).

“This is a continuous process. This type of drill is regularly being conducted in other countries too to check any loopholes,” he added.

He further said that the drill will mostly take place at night and on holiday to avert any inconvenience for the users.

The organization conducted a drill in city’s Ramna area earlier on the wee hours of August 3.

However, the drill campaign has been taken on the backdrop of uploading the photographs of terrorists on internet by themselves during July 1 terror attack at a city café. The BTRC then struggled to shut down internet on the day.
