PM inaugurates Digital World-2016 in Dhaka

DHAKA: Digital World 2016, a three-day mega ICT event of Bangladesh, has begun at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital of Bangladesh from Wednesday (October 19).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the mega event around 12:00 pm that began with the slogan “Non-stop Bangladesh”.

Forty ministries will showcase their activities in the fourth edition of the event that will draw curtain on October 21 (Friday).

Besides, over 100 top non-government organizations will present their digital activities here.

During the event, over 200 speakers, including 43 foreign speakers from international ICT firms like Microsoft, Facebook, Acer, World Bank, ZTE and Huawei, will share their experiences with participants in four sessions and 14 seminars.

First day’s seminars will include: Business model for high tech zone, How to expand e-commerce to rural areas, Education for Every Citizen-Building a Digital Platform for Education and Learning and Creating a niche for mobile and gaming.

Besides, seven ministers from seven countries will take part in a Ministerial Conference on “Digital Transformation” around 3:30 pm on the first day of the event.

Second day’s seminars will include: Venture Capital for Startups, Leaving no one behind, Industry Readiness for Digitization of Government Services, Building a Smart Startup Ecosystem - Connecting Startups, Digital Bangladesh-Perspective Smart Dhaka, ICT Career camp, Inclusive finance through technologies and Industry-Academy Dialogue for Digital Growth.

Seminars on the third and final day of Digital Bangladesh 2016 will include: You are not safe! Digital security for every citizen, The road to $5 billion ICT export by 2021, Developers Conference 2016, Grow Your Business with Facebook and Leveraging benefits of ICTs to Attain Health-related SDGs in Bangladesh.

For the first time, the event will experience Developers Conference, to be held from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Hall 1 (Gulnaksha) on October 21 (Friday).

The event will run from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm everyday and will be open to all.

Besides, there will be cultural programs in every afternoon. Organizers expect around 500,000 people would visit the event.

State minister for ICT affairs Zunaid Ahmed Palak presided over the program where BASIS president Mustafa Jabbar, among others, also addressed.

Bangladesh Computer Society, Bangladesh Women in Information Technology (BWIT), CTO Forum Bangladesh, E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh and Bangladesh ICT Journalist Forum are assisting in organizing the event.
