‘Pay per use’ in mobile net not more than Tk 5: BTRC BTRC logo

DHAKA: Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) warned the mobile phone operators for not charging more than Tk 5 while a user uses the internet being unaware of his package ending.

The mobile operators have been asked to follow the instruction from March 1.

There were allegations that the mobile internet users are charged till end of his/her balance while s/he consumes the data being ignorant that the package s/he uses is over. The automatically turned-on ‘pay per use’ internet service costs minimum 0.01/KB with tax.

Allegations were raised regarding the endless data-charging in a public hearing of BTRC in 2016.

BTRC said in the instruction that the users must not be charged more than Tk5 to save them from the ‘bill shock’. The user will give consent through SMS or USSD if s/he wants to use the ‘pay per use’ data more.

BTRC also directed the mobile operators to limit their offers to maximum 20 Regular offers and 15 Professional offers.
