A webinar on Online teaching and learning: ‘Retrospect and Expectations' was organized by The Monthly Techworld Bangladesh in associate with of WhiteShell (The MSI product Distributor of Bangladesh) and the Canadian University of Bangladesh that held on Saturday (Feb 12) on the Zoom platform.

Prof. HM Jahirul Haque, Ph.D., Senior Advisor, Board of Trustee, Canadian University of Bangladesh was present the session as Chief Guest where Prof. F.A Sobhani, Professor, School of Business and Economics, United International University (UIU), President, Bangladesh Society of Private University Association grace the webinar as the session Chair. The Keynote speaker of the session was Prof. Syed Akhter Hossain, Dean, School of Science and Engineering & Head of Computer Science & Engineering Department, Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) and Syed Almas Kabir, President, Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce & Industry Former President, BASIS, CEO, MetroNet Bangladesh Limited, Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Ashikur Rahman, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. Prof. Dr. Touhid Bhuiyan, Head of the Department, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Daffodil International University participated in the session as a panelist. Besides Shiekh Raju Ahmed, product Manager MSI, Bangladesh along with Ms. Farzana Afroze, Lecturer, Dept. of Basic Sciences and Humanities, UAP. 

The session was hosted by Zarin Nasrin Tumpa, Researcher (Education), The Monthly World Bangladesh, And the session was moderated by Ms. Naznin Nahar, Editor & Publisher, The Monthly Techworld Bangladesh. 

In his keynote, Professor Akter Hossain said that –making the online classes more effective and inclusive for all there is a need to bring a strategic change from the infrastructure to the teaching process and ensure an amalgamation of all types of interventions (online and offline classes) for online learning activities through a unified policy direction and the students need to focus on adaption and motivated themselves to learn. We also need to focus on content and digital literacy to maximize the opportunity of these new forms of education.

Prof. Dr. Touhid Bhuiyan said there are so many new and advanced technology is available to monitor and assess students online that our teachers need to adopt and practice to motivate our students in online education. But sometimes we found that our teachers in not ready to change themselves from the tradition to the new norm.

Students need to utilize this opportunity of staying at home and learning something different and skilled themselves in any new skill. It could be any soft skill or even music. Because they need to prepare themselves strongly to face the challenges in the coming days in their career. On the other hand, the stakeholders especially the academy and industry need to work together to address challenges of online education especially to connect the unconnected with online education – Said Syed Almas Kabir 

We have transformed into online in every aspect of education teaching and learning along with the process of assessment and test No matter the number and complexity in challenges, universities in Bangladesh should always look for the best solution and alternative that will fit the purpose of the students prioritizing the quality of education over anything else, said Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Ashikur Rahman

MSI always believe in quality and affordability and we have a large number of the model that matches for the students demand. We are ready to support any institutions from a lab setting to any other digital transformation, said Shiekh Raju Ahmed.

In his speech as chief guest Mr. HM Jahirul Haque said- The teacher has to be innovative in evaluating the class performances of the students and keeping them engaged during the class through utilizing multiple means of teaching with extra patience, great care, and extra tutoring service.
We don’t consider online education as transitory rather to consider it demand of this digital era. So, we all need to work together to develop the infrastructure of this education method. This outlook of online education, if needed to be inherently adopted all over the country, Government needs to be supportive through UGC in legislating the optimum but specific strategies on implementation- said Prof. F.A Sobhani.

The webinar was an active session between industry & Academia and a number of Students From BUET, MIST, DU, CUB, DIU, UAP, WUB were participants the session to share their thoughts with the guests and panelists.
