Public awareness programme on cardiac health held at Bashundhara City

A public awareness programme to perform life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was held at the Bashundhara City Shopping Complex in Dhaka today (March 17) marking the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen was the chief guest while Awami League Presidium member Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin was the guest of honour at the campaign organised by Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad (SWACHIP).

The programme provides hands-on training on CPR to traders of the shopping mall. CPR is administered to revive someone in sudden cardiac arrest.

SWACHIP President Prof Jamal Uddin Chowdhury presided over the session while acting secretary general Sohail Mahmud moderated the discussion.

Addressing the programme, the health minister recalled the contribution of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for leading the glorious independence of Bangladesh.

“We could not move here unless Bangabandhu dreamt of an independent nation for us. Marking the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, SWACHIP has taken a commendable initiative to raise public awareness on CPR,” Samanta added.

Cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death worldwide as 55 to 113 people per lakh, a total of 3,50,000 to 7,00,000 people die of cardiac arrest every year globally.
